Focus on Student Accounts

Student Codes

How many students actually have the resources to practice the very important skill of sight reading on their own? Very few have spare sheet music lying around that they have never read before that they can use for sight reading. But almost all students have access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Using any of those devices, students have at their fingertips a virtually unlimited supply of sight reading material at SightReadingFactory.com that can be customized exactly to their needs. Student Accounts offer a way for you to give your students access to use Sight Reading Factory® on their own on any device that has an internet connection.

Some benefits to having student accounts include:

  • Students have access to unlimited sight reading material to practice on their own.
  • Assess your students with the Assignments feature.
  • Student practice logs that are auto-populated based on your students’ practice sessions.
  • Students can actually prepare for auditions that require sight reading!
  • Practice enhancements that can aid the student in their practicing including: metronome, audio playback, ability to record themselves and listen back to it, opening pitch options, cursor, and disappearing measures.

Assessment - Assignments and Recording

As an educator you can create assignments for your students which they complete by recording themselves performing a sight reading exercise (configured by you) and then submitting it back to you. You can then see the music each of your students performed, listen to their recordings, and give a grade and comments which they can review. Watch the video below or visit the following links for more information on the Assignments feature.

Single Sign-On (SSO) Options and Learning Management System (LMS) integrations

In addition to having our own built-in LMS, SRF also offers integrations with Clever, Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, Classlink, and MusicFirst. One of the most exciting benefits of these integrations is that your students don’t need to have a separate login for SRF - they can access SRF directly through one of those integrations. Also, depending on your integration, the grading that is done in SRF can be automatically entered in to your online gradebook.

Check out this page which has more information on our integrations.

Live Practice

Live Practice is an exciting and innovative feature in Sight Reading Factory for practicing ensemble sight reading with your students as a group. With Live Practice, your generated ensemble exercises are split into separate parts and cast out to each of your students’ connected devices. Gone are the days of handing out, collecting, and re-filing music for your students to sight read. Gone also are the days of your students struggling to read projected ensemble music from a full score.

Watch the short video below for a brief overview of Live Practice or you can check out this page which has detailed instructions on how to get started with Live Practice.

Practice Logs

With the Practice Log feature, you and your students can easily see a snapshot of weekly SRF practicing that includes the number of exercises generated and the amount of time spent practicing. Practice log data is recorded by class. If a student is enrolled in more than one SRF class, when they launch a practice session they are asked to pick which class they are practicing for. So, in those cases where a student is enrolled in more than one SRF class, they will have a separate practice log with distinct data for each class that they have practiced for.

Check out our blog on Practice Logs and Practice Settings for more information.

Practice Settings

With class-based practice launches, you have control in structuring your students’ practice sessions. As a teacher, when you create a class you can specify various settings that will be used by your students that practice with SRF for this class. For the available options (such as Level, Key, Time, etc.) you can either preset the settings (which forces the students to practice with the specific settings that you specify) or you can let the student choose their own settings. If you let the students choose their own settings, you can narrow down the choices that they can pick from. For all of the options, you can mix and match whether you want to Preset them or Let Student Choose. i.e. You can Preset some choices and Let Student Choose others.
